MANILA, Philippines — A low-pressure area (LPA) near Mindanao is expected to bring rain over several parts of the country on Tuesday, while the northeast monsoon will likewise cause rain in parts of Luzon, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.

According to Pagasa’s latest weather forecast, the LPA was last spotted 285 kilometers east southeast of Davao City. It continues to have low chance of developing into a storm but its trough is expected to affect several parts of the country.

“Inaasahan natin na itong trough ng LPA o mismong LPA ay magdudulot ng mga pagulan na may mga kasamang thunderstorms dito sa areas ng Visayas at Mindanao,” said Pagasa weather specialist Veronica Torres.

Meanwhile, Torres said the northeast monsoon, locally known as amihan, will continue to bring overcast skies and rain over Eastern Luzon, as well as Bicol Region.

The rest of Luzon, including Metro Manila, on the other hand, will have relatively fairer weather conditions with chances of rain.

Due to the effects of amihan, gale warning also remains raised in several of the country’s seaboards, particularly Batanes, Cagayan, including Babuyan Islands, Isabela, Northern coast of Ilocos Norte, Aurora, Northern Quezon, including northern and eastern coasts of Polillo Islands, Camarines Norte, Northern coast of Camarines Sur, Northern and eastern coasts of Catanduanes, Eastern coast of Albay, Eastern coast of Sorsogon, Northern and eastern coasts of Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, Eastern coast of Southern Leyte, Dinagat Islands, Eastern coast of Surigao del Norte including Siargao and Bucas Grande Islands, Surigao del Sur.

The state weather bureau said the temperature range in key cities/areas across the country for Tuesday would be:

  • Metro Manila: 22 to 29 degrees Celsius
  • Baguio City: 13 to 22 degrees Celsius
  • Laoag City:  20 to 29 degrees Celsius
