BAGUIO CITY — An Isabela library and various north Luzon banks were declared outstanding stakeholders of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) for helping promote financial literacy during rites held in the summer capital on Monday (Jan. 23).
The Cauayan City Public Library was honored for serving as a primary source of financial education and other “financial inclusion” initiatives in its community, alongside the Ilocos office of the Commission on Higher Education, the Baguio campus of the CART MRI Development Institute, and broadcaster Vanguard Radio Network.
Also recognized were the Land Bank of the Philippines’ San Fernando, Pampanga cash operations unit and its Pangasinan branch, MetroBank Cabanatuan’s Burgos Branch, and China Bank’s Cabanatuan Maharlika Branch.
The event was one of the first in-person events staged by BSP, since the two-year quarantine period, now that the country “is back to being one of the fastest growing economies,” said former Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat, who now serves as BSP Deputy Governor.
Anita Linda Aquino, a member of the Monetary Board, said these institutions helped improve the BSP’s services given the “growing complexities of the banking sector.”
She said society would continue to transform due to the shift to a digital economy, the evolving financial markets, the emergence of new payment platforms, and the rise of new financial players. INQ
