MANILA, Philippines — Thirty-five people have died due to widespread rains brought about by low-pressure areas (LPA) and other weather systems since January 2, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said in its situational report on Monday.
Most of the recorded deaths were from the Zamboanga Peninsula at 12.
Northern Mindanao, Eastern Visayas, and Bicol region also logged eight, seven, and six deaths, respectively.
Davao Region and Soccsksargen (South Cotabato, Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani, and General Santos City) also tallied one death each.
NDRRMC said 19 deaths were already validated while the rest are still for verification.
Moreover, 12 people were injured while seven remain missing.
Damage to agriculture was pegged at P751.9 million while destruction to infrastructure was estimated to be at P276.7 million.
A number of widespread rain-inducing low-pressure areas have entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility since the beginning of January, while the shear line and the northeast monsoon or amihan continue to affect the country, according to Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration.
