MANILA, Philippines — The Sandiganbayan has denied the plea by former Butuan City Mayor Ferdinand Amante Jr. for a new trial on his graft case, as it found “no compelling reason” to amend its decision convicting him last year.
In a nine-page resolution on Jan. 19, the antigraft court’s Third Division ruled that the arguments and issues raised by Amante were a “mere rehash” of what was already resolved by the court.
The case involves his irregular purchase and shipment of a defective computerized tomography (CT) scan machine worth P15 million from the United States.
