CITY OF CALAPAN — A 7-year-old boy died Wednesday afternoon after he drowned in floodwater in Baco town, Oriental Mindoro province.
Cesar Maliwanag, Baco disaster risk reduction management officer, identified the victim in a text message on Thursday as Chrismark Badal, a resident of Barangay Catwiran 2.
An initial report said the boy fell into the chest-high flood on the road at Sitio (sub-village) Parang in Barangay Poblacion around 4 p.m.
Responders brought the boy to the Oriental Mindoro Provincial Hospital, but he was declared dead around 5 p.m.
Maliwanag said incessant rains due to the shear line spawned widespread flooding in the town.
Baco Mayor Allan Roldan earlier canceled classes at all levels in public and private schools because of the flooding. INQ
