Ex-NPA rebel yields in Tarlac
MABALACAT CITY, Pampanga — A former New People’s Army (NPA) guerrilla surrendered on Wednesday to the police and military in Tarlac province and turned over a firearm and an explosive device.
In a statement, the Tarlac police said the 55-year-old former rebel used to operate as a “red fighter” in the mountainous areas of Capas and San Jose towns.
It said the former rebel turned over a caliber .22 rifle and a rifle grenade to police and Army officers.
Lieutenant Colonel Franklin Estoro, commander of the 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Company of the Tarlac police, said the rebel returnee would undergo a tactical interview for documentation before his assimilation into mainstream society.
The former rebel is expected to receive cash incentives, livelihood assistance, and other benefits under the government’s Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program. INQ
