Pagasa: Cloudy, wet Thursday in parts of Southern Luzon, Visayas

MANILA, Philippines — A cloudy and rainy Thursday is expected in several parts of Southern Luzon and the Visayas where the shear lihe is prevailing, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) on Thursday.

The state weather bureau said that the shear line is affecting Bicol region, Quezon, Marinduque, Romblon, Aklan, Capiz, and Northern Samar.

“Patuloy ang pag-uulan sa malaking bahagi po ng Southern Luzon and Visayas, dahil yan sa shear line, yung linya kung saan nagtatagpo ang northeast monsoon at yung mainit na hangin mula sa Dagat Pasipiko, so asahan pa rin yung minsan na malalakas na pag-ulan sa mga nabanggit ko na lugar,” said Pagasa weather specialist Benison Estreja.

(Rains will persist over a large part of Southern Luzon and Visayas because of the shear line, where the northeast monsoon meets the warm winds from the Pacific Ocean, so expect occasionally strong rains in the mentioned areas).

No tropical cyclone is expected to hit the country until the weekend due to the absence of a low pressure areas inside of the Philippine area of responsibility, added Estreja.

Amihan” effect

Meanwhile, Pagasa said that the northeast monsoon or “amihan” is affecting Cagayan Valley, Apayao, Kalinga, Mountain Prrovince, Ifugao, Aurora, Laguna, and Oriental Mindoro, causing overcast skies and rain.

Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will also be affected by the northeast monsoon but with “no significant impact”, according to Pagasa.

Rough seas alert!

The northeast monsoon winds have also prompted Pagasa to raise a gale warning over Batanes, Cagayan, Isabela, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Aurora, Northern Quezon including Polillo Islands, Camarines Norte, northern coast of Camarines Sur, northern and eastern coasts of Catanduanes, and Kalayaan Islands.
