1 dead, 3 hurt in Zamboanga City shooting incident

Some 2,540 persons from 13 villages here were evacuated from their homes on Wednesday as flood waters rummaged through their communities, spawned by incessant rains brought by a low pressure area.

ZAMBOANGA CITY — A lone gunman aboard a motorbike drove towards the gate of Taha wharf in Barangay Baliwasan in this city and shot and killed a person and injured three others on Monday.

The crime scene was a few meters away from two checkpoints, one manned by the Army and another by the police.

Police Major Paul Andrew Cortez, Zamboanga City Police Office spokesperson, identified the lone fatality only as Felix, who was declared dead on arrival at a local hospital.

Those injured were Albasar Abdul Amiril, 37; Mohammad Taha
Panolera Saddalani, 26; and Saramae Panolera Saddalani, 35.

All the victims are residents of Baliwasan Seaside.

Cortez said the gunman, who remained unidentified, was wearing a brown jacket and a black full-face helmet and rode on a black TMX motorcycle.

Reports from the Zamboanga City Police Station 11 said the shooting happened at 6:20 a.m. on Monday while the victims were standing and talking at the main gate of the private wharf.

The suspect fired two shots into the victims as he approached the wharf, and another two as he fled towards Baliwasan Grande.

This is the second shooting in January. The first was on Jan. 8 in Bulilit, Barangay Sta. Maria, where an unidentified gunman shot a college student identified as Arthur Salvador Aslafar, 28.
