MANILA, Philippines — Cloudy skies and scattered rain showers are forecast over several parts of Luzon on Tuesday due to the effects of the northeast monsoon, a low-pressure area (LPA) and the shear line, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.

According to Pagasa, the LPA was last spotted 245 kilometers east of Maasin City, Southern Leyte.

“Ang LPA ay unti unti na pong humihina at Inaasahan natin na ito ay malulusaw ngayon o bukas, samantalang ang amihan ay lumakas at naaapektuhan na po ang buong Luzon na bukod sa malamig na simoy na hangin ay magdadala rin ng pagulan,” said Pagasa weather specialist Aldczar Aurelio.

(The LPA is gradually weakening and we expect it to dissolve today or tomorrow, while the northeast monsoon has strengthened and is already affecting the whole of Luzon, which in addition to the cold breeze, will also bring rain.)

Despite the forecast weakening, the LPA and the shear line are still expected to continue scattered rain and cloudy skies over Mimaropa, Bicol Region and Quezon.

The northeast monsoon, or the “amihan,” will bring rain over Eastern Luzon, particularly Cagayan, Apayao and Batanes, while the rest of Luzon, including Metro Manila, will have relatively fairer weather with chances of rain.

Fairer weather conditions are then forecast over the entire Visayas and Mindanao, with chances of rain due to localized thunderstorms.

Gale warning is also still raised over the seaboards Batanes, Cagayan and Babuyan Islands, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Pangasinan, La Union, Isabela and Aurora.

The state weather bureau said the temperature range in key cities/areas across the country for Tuesday will be:

  • Metro Manila: 24 to 31 degrees Celsius
  • Baguio City: 16 to 24 degrees Celsius
  • Laoag City:  21 to 30 degrees Celsius
  • Tuguegarao: 21 to 30 degrees Celsius
  • Legazpi City: 23 to 29 degrees Celsius
  • Puerto Princesa City: 24 to 31 degrees Celsius
  • Tagaytay: 22 to 29 degrees Celsius
  • Kalayaan Islands: 24 to 31 degrees Celsius
  • Iloilo City: 24 to 31 degrees Celsius
  • Cebu: 24 to 31 degrees Celsius
  • Tacloban City: 24 to 31 degrees Celsius
  • Cagayan De Oro City: 24 to 31 degrees Celsius
  • Zamboanga City: 24 to 32 degrees Celsius
  • Davao City: 25 to 33 degrees Celsius
