Pagasa: Rainy Monday in parts of PH due to LPA, ‘amihan’

MANILA, Philippines – A low pressure area (LPA), shear line and northeast monsoon or  “amihan,” will bring rains to parts of the country, including Metro Manila, the state weather bureau said on Monday.

In its early morning forecast, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the LPA was last sighted some 180 kilometers east of Butuan City, Agusan del Norte.

“Mas malaki ang tsansa na ito ay malusaw, particularly in the next 48 hours. Maliit pa rin ang tsansa na ito’y maging bagyo (There is a big chance that it will dissipate, particularly in the next 48 hours. It also has a slim chance of progressing into a tropical cyclone),” Pagasa weather specialist Obet Badrina said.

He noted, however, that the LPA, together with the shear line, will bring overcast skies and scattered rains to Metro Manila, Mimaropa (Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan), Bicol region and Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon).

Rains are likewise expected in Batanes, Cordillera Administrative Region, Cagayan Valley and Ilocos Region due to the northeast monsoon, according to Badrina.

“Ngayong linggo, inaasahan natin na muling lalakas itong northeast monsoon (This week, we’re expecting the northeast monsoon to regain its strength),” he pointed out.

Meanwhile, Pagasa said the Visayas and Mindanao will have fair weather with possible isolated rain showers.
