MANILA, Philippines—Two major road projects nearing completion are expected to improve traffic flow in the metropolis, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said.
DPWH said in a statement that Secretary Rogelio Singson led the drive-through inspection and partial opening of the newly constructed flyover that connects Tandang Sora in Barangay Old Balara to Luzon Avenue, crossing over Commonwealth Avenue.
“The opening of this flyover will further encourage motorists from North Luzon Expressway [going] towards South Luzon Expressway and vice versa to skip horrendous traffic at EDSA by taking the convenient route of C-5 and NLEX-Mindanao Avenue link,” DPWH said.
“The 18-meter wide bridge constructed at a cost of P570 million is a vital component of the C-5 Extension Project as it interconnects Luzon Avenue to C-5/Katipunan Avenue in Quezon City,” DPWH added.
Singson also inspected the road widening and improvement project of the stretch of Marcos Highway from Evangelista street in Marikina City to Masinag in Antipolo City.
“The 4.70 kilometer road improvement/widening project will benefit motorists and commuters in the Eastern Metropolitan Manila Area not only the decongestion of traffic but especially in controlling the flood water as it will improve the discharge volume from Cainta and Antipolo City down to the Marikina River outfall during rainy season,” DPWH said.
The improved Marcos Highway will have new features such as a Public Utility Vehicle (PUV) lane, two-meter wide bike lanes on both sides, and a one-meter planting strip for landscaping.
“The project is jointly funded by the government of the Philippines and the World Bank under the National Road Improvement and Management Program Phase II,” DPWH said.
