Villar Price Watch

Trade Secretary Pascual and Senator Villar check the prices of goods at the Guadalupe Public Market.

MANILA, Philippines — Senator Mark Villar in his capacity as chairman of the Senate Trade, Commerce and Entrepreneurship Committee along with Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Secretary Alfredo Pascual and Trade Undersecretary Ruth Castelo conducted a price monitoring of goods and products at the Guadalupe Public Market on Friday, January 13, 2023.

“Sumama po tayo ngayon kay Sec. Pascual upang first-hand makita ang presyo ng mga commodities at personal din nating makausap ang mga tindera at consumers.” Villar said.

Aside from the Guadalupe Public Market, they also inspected two supermarkets near the area to check the consistency of the suggested retail price per item. Among products checked were fish, chicken, pork, eggs, onions, canned goods, noodles, coffee and milk.

“Alam naman po natin na tumataas ang ibang produkto tulad ng sibuyas at itlog, nandito tayo para malaman ang tunay na rason ng pagtaas ng presyo at magawan natin ng solusyon sa Senado”, Villar said

The DTI regularly conducts price monitoring in order to identify and investigate the reasons of market and pricing irregularities, evaluate price trends and price ceilings

“We commend and support DTI’s initiatives such as today’s Ikot Palengke because we strongly believe that ensuring fair transactions not only promotes consumer confidence but also boosts local industries,” Villar said.
