Cops arrest man with meth, unlicensed firearm in Sultan Kudarat town

TACURONG CITY, Sultan Kudarat – Police personnel arrested manning a checkpoint in Barangay San Emmanuel here arrested on Friday a man for possession of suspected meth and an unlicensed high-powered firearm.

Brig. Gen. Jimili Macaraeg, police director of Soccsksargen region, identified the man as Rodel Dawatan, 37, a resident of Barangay Kalawag, Isulan town, Sultan Kudarat.

Citing a report from Tacurong City police office, Macaraeg said Dawatan was arrested around 8 a.m. at a checkpoint along the national highway in Purok Namnama, Barangay San Emmanuel when they noticed the driver of a Mitsubishi Expander vehicle acting suspiciously.

Upon plain view inspection, the police spotted a partially hidden M-16 Bushmaster rifle in the passenger seat.

“The driver failed to present documents legalizing his possession of the firearm,” Macaraeg said.

Also taken from Dawatan’s car were eight ammunition and a huge sachet of suspected shabu or meth.

Dawatan did not resist arrest and he is now detained at the Tacurong City police lockup facility while charges for violation of the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act are being prepared against him.
