MANILA, Philippines — The low pressure area (LPA) inside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) is forecast to trigger moderate to heavy rainfall in Southern Luzon, the Visayas and Mindanao on Thursday, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).
In its early morning update, Pagasa said the LPA was spotted some 380 kilometers east of Surigao City, Surigao del Norte.
“Sa ngayon po ay mababa pa rin ang tsansa na ito ay magiging isang bagyo subalit patuloy ang mga pag-uulan dito sa may bahagi ng Visayas, Mindanao, and even southern Luzon and take note po, minsan lumalakas ang pag-ulan, generally moderate to heavy rains po ito,” said Pagasa weather specialist Benison Estreja.
(It currently has a slim chance of becoming a tropical cyclone, but the rains will continue in the parts of Visayas, Mindanao and even Southern Luzon. Take note that the rains may be intense a times, but will be generally moderate to heavy.)
The shear line is also expected to hit the same areas affected by the LPA.
The Visayas, Mindanao, Bicol region and Romblon can expect overcast skies and rain due to the two weather systems, according to Pagasa.
Meanwhile, the state weather bureau said that Cagayan Valley, Aurora, Quezon, Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro , Marinduque, and Palawan are forecast to have cloudy skies with rain due to the northeast monsoon or “amihan”.
Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will have partly cloudy skies with light rains due to the northeast monsoon, mPagasa added.
Estreja also reminded the public that the Department of Education’s updated class suspension guidelines are in effect, and that classes will be automatically suspended in areas that are issued an Orange or Red Rainfall Warning.
Due to the winds of the northeast monsoon, a gale warning has been raised by Pagasa over the following areas: eastern coast of Cagayan, Isabela, Aurora, Northern Quezon including the northern and eastern coasts of Polillo Islands, Camarines Norte, northern coast of Camarines Sur, northern and eastern coasts of Catanduanes, eastern coast of Albay, eastern coast of Sorsogon, Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, eastern coast of Southern Leyte, Dinagat Islands, and the eastern coast of Surigao del Norte, including Siargao and Bucas Grande Islands.
