MANILA, Philippines — The low-pressure area (LPA) located east of Surigao del Norte and the shear line will continue to bring rain over Mindanao and the Visayas, as well as in parts of Luzon on Thursday, the Philippine, Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.
According to Pagasa, the LPA was last spotted 475 kilometers east of Surigao, Surigao del Norte. There is little chance that it will turn into a tropical cyclone within the next 24 hours, said Pagasa.
“Dahil sa patuloy na epekto ng LPA at shear line, makakaranas tayo ng maulap na kalangitan na may mga pagulan, pagkulog at pagkidlat sa buong Mimaropa, at sa buong Bicol Region,” said Pagasa weather specialist Daniel James Villamil.
(Due to the continued effect of the LPA and shear line, we will experience cloudy skies with showers, thunder and lightning throughout Mimaropa and the entire Bicol Region.)
Meanwhile, the northeast monsoon, locally known as “amihan,” will continue to rain over Luzon’s eastern section. Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon, meanwhile, will have relatively fairer weather with chances of rain also due to the amihan.
“Pero pinakamaapektuhan nga ng LPA ang bahagi ng Central at Eastern Visayas, pati na rin ang Zamboanga Peninsula at hilagang bahagi ng Caraga region,” said Villamil.
(But the LPA will most affect the Central and Eastern Visayas, the Zamboanga Peninsula, and the Caraga region’s northern part.)
A gale warning remains raised over several seaboards, particularly in the eastern coast of Cagayan, Isabela, Aurora, Northern Quezon, including the northern and eastern coasts of Polillo Islands, Camarines Norte, the northern coast of Camarines Sur, the northern and eastern coast of Catanduanes, the eastern coast of Albay, the eastern coast of Sorsogon, Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, the eastern coast of Southern Leyte, the Dinagat Islands, the eastern coast of Surigao del Norte including Siargao and the Bucas Grande island.
