PNP promotes 43,823 police officers to higher rank
MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Tuesday said it promoted 43,823 police officers to higher ranks across the country.
According to the PNP in a statement, 406 were promoted to the rank of Police Major; 3,568 were promoted to Police Captain; 273 to Police Lieutenant Colonel; 1,707 Police Executive Master Sergeants (PEMS); 3,507 Police Chief Master Sergeants (PCMS); 3,033 Police Senior Master Sergeants (PSMS); 5,046 Police Master Sergeants (PMSg); 11,711 Police Staff Sergeants (PSSg); and 14,572 were promoted to the rank of Police Corporal (PCpl).
PNP Chief Gen. Rodolfo Azurin Jr. himself formally administered the oath of office to 1,172 newly promoted police officers assigned at the National Headquarters at Camp Crame.
“Your promotion today defines success, and it is anchored with a huge opportunity and motivation to further impart your ideals, wisdom, and vision. So, as you move up to the career ladder, it is important to remember that with greater authority comes greater accountability,” Azurin said.
“And as future leaders of the PNP it is your duty to serve as a role model to your fellow officers. A leader with integrity, professionalism, and respect for the law,” he added.
He also reminded all newly promoted that as police officers, their duty is not just to enforce the law but also to build trust and good relationships with the community. Further, they must treat every public member with dignity and respect and work to bridge the existing gaps.
“Bilang inyong pinuno, inaasahan ko ang inyong kooperasyon sa ating ginagawang internal cleansing program upang tuluyang wakasan ang mga di kanais-nais na pagmamalabis ng ibang kasamahan natin sa serbisyo at iba pang maling gawain na labag sa batas at moralidad – lalong lalo na ang mga nasasangkot sa iligal na droga,” Azurin further added.
(As your leader, I expect your cooperation in our internal cleansing program to ultimately end the undesirable excesses of our other colleagues in the service and other wrongdoings that are against the law and morality – especially those involved in illegal drugs.)
The regular promotion program of the PNP ensures a streamlined rank structure of the entire 227,000 strong police officers in the organization based on the staffing pattern approved by the National Police Commission.
The promotion also came after Interior Sec. Benhur Abalos Jr’s courtesy resignation appeal to PNP amid fears that some high-ranking police officers are involved in the illegal drug trade.
Earlier, current PNP chief Gen. Rodolfo Azurin Jr. and other command group members heeded the appeal of Interior Secretary Benjamin Abalos Jr. and submitted their courtesy resignations.
