Resident turns over python found inside house to cops in Palawan

PUERTO PRINCESA CITY — A resident in this city surrendered Monday a wounded reticulated python (Malayopython reticulatus) to police after it entered their house in Honda Bay in Barangay Sta. Lourdes.
The Philippine National Police Maritime Group 2nd Special Operations Unit (PNP-2nd SOU-MG), in turn, gave the animal to the office of the Palawan Council for Sustainable Development Staff (PCSDS) also on Monday, a report said Tuesday, Jan. 10.
A concerned citizen identified as “Justin” surrendered the python. Despite fearing the snake, Justin captured it with the help of relatives and friends, said the report.
The PCSDS brought the snake, which weighs 1.37 kilograms and is 1.85 meters long, to the Palawan Wildlife Rescue and Conservation Center in Barangay Irawan, where a veterinarian checked it. The center will monitor the snake and treat it before releasing it into the wild.
The report did not state how the python was wounded and the severity of its injury.
Reticulated pythons are endangered species under PCSD Resolution No. 15-521.
PCSDS encourages residents who find wildlife, such as pythons, to turn them over or report to the office’s Wildlife Enforcement Unit for appropriate action.
