TUGUEGARAO CITY — The acting regional police director of Cagayan Valley and 18 other top cop officials in the region filed their courtesy resignations on Monday.
At a press briefing, Brigadier General Percival Rumbaoa said he and 18 colonels—all provincial police heads and division chiefs—would submit themselves to the investigation by a committee tasked with unmasking the “ninja cops (rogue cops)” in the Philippine National Police.
The move came after Interior Secretary Benhur Abalos Jr. called on all senior police officials of the PNP to clear the slate of the police force and allow the committee to uncover those linked to drug crimes and other illicit operations.
Rumbaoa said he was confident no one in the region’s police force was involved in the illegal drug trade.
He said their courtesy resignations indicated that they were supporting the internal cleansing program and transformation of the police organization.
“Instead of protesting, we support the move and appeal of the secretary of the [Department of the Interior and Local Government] to tender a courtesy resignation. All of us in the [Police Regional Office 2], from me down to other colonels, signed our respective courtesy resignations and sent them to Camp Crame,” he said. INQ
