BAGUIO CITY — The City Council on Monday requested the country’s telecommunications companies to open public assistance booths at city parks to help their customers register their pre-paid and post-paid telephone accounts as prescribed by law.

The body passed a resolution sponsored by Councilor Betty Lourdes Tabanda that urged telecommunications companies to put up service outlets at Malcolm Square in downtown Baguio and other parks and public spaces for users to register their subscribers’ identity module cards.

The registration is required by Republic Act No. 11934 (SIM Card Registration Act), passed to curb illicit activities and online fraud and gives subscribers 180 days to fulfill their registration. INQ
