LUCENA CITY — An alleged member of the communist New People’s Army (NPA) surrendered to the police in Antipolo City in Rizal province on Sunday, Jan. 8.
The Calabarzon police reported Monday that the rebel returnee, Randy Gundran, voluntarily surrendered to the police in Barangay Calawis at around 9 p.m.
Police did not provide further details about the former communist guerrilla, except that he is listed in the Philippine National Police’s periodic status report (PSR) as an NPA.
Gundran also surrendered one M1 Garand rifle with 16 bullets, 3 M1 Garand rifle clips, and 10 40-mm grenade launcher rounds.
The government authorities are preparing the necessary assistance for the former rebels in their reintegration protocols under the government’s Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-Clip).
A rebel returnee can avail himself of firearm remuneration and housing, medical care, loans, and legal assistance, among other forms of help from the government. INQ
