The Department of Health (DOH) said in its weekly report that the new cases were recorded from January 2-8 and that only seven or 0.23 percent of them were classified as severe or critical – bringing the number of active severe or critical patients to 507.

The agency also explained that the new infections translated to a daily average of 447, 9 percent lower than the logged daily average during the week before January 2. The DOH, however, did not mention the figure in its latest report.

Meanwhile, the DOH’s coronavirus tracker showed that 79 fatalities were added to the country’s COVID-19 death toll of 65,475 as of January 8. It also noted that 17 died in the past two weeks, while the rest were cases recorded as early as August 2020 but were just validated recently.
