MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) is looking into a fake memorandum that purported to immediately call for a heightened police alert in response to an alleged destabilization plot within the Armed Forces.
PNP spokesperson Col. Jean Fajardo said the PNP’s Anti-Cybercrime Group is leading the probe of the social media posts about the spurious memorandum.
“Inumpisahan na ng PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group ang kanilang imbestigasyon para tukuyin kung sino ang source nitong kumalat na social media post kung saan na napabalita na ang PNP ay naka-full alert because doon sa napabalita na destabilization,” she said in a public briefing.
(The PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group has started its investigation to trace the source of the social media posts on the fake memorandum on PNP being on full alert status due to destabilization.)
“Kung sino man ang mapapatunayan na nagkalat nitong misinformation na ito ay mananagot sa batas,” Fajardo added.
(Whoever is responsible for spreading this disinformation will answer to the full force of the law.)
Fajardo said that while the PNP is currently on heightened alert, it is because of the ongoing activities connected to the Feast of the Black Nazarene and not due to any destabilization plot.
