MANILA, Philippines – It will be a wet Monday in the Visayas, Mindanao and parts of Luzon on Monday due to the trough or extension of a low pressure area (LPA) outside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) and the northeast monsoon or “amihan,” according to the state weather bureau.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the LPA, which may enter the PAR, was spotted early Monday morning some 650 kilometers east-southeast of General Santos City in Mindanao.

“Sa ngayon nga, maliit pa rin iyong tsansa na ito’y maging bagyo pero pumasok man o hindi, maging bagyo man o hindi, inaasahan natin na patuloy itong magdadala ng mga pag-ulan sa malaking bahagi ng Visayas at Mindanao, kasama riyan iyong bahagi ng Palawan. Particular na iyong trough o extension nito, maari ring umabot hanggang sa may bahagi ng Bicol region,” state weather specialist Obet Badrina said in an early morning forecast.

(Right now, it has a slim chance of progressing into a tropical cyclone, but whether or not it enters PAR or becomes a tropical cyclone,  it is still expected to bring rains to many parts of Visayas, Mindanao and even parts of Palawan. Particularly its trough or extension, it may also affect parts of the Bicol region.)
