MANILA, Philippines – Rain is expected in many parts of the country on Sunday due to the trough or extension of a low-pressure area (LPA) abd the northeast monsoon or “amihan,” according to the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).
The LPA is currently outside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) and has a slim chance of developing into a storm.
It is, however, still forecast to bring overcast skies and widespread rain to the entire Visayas and Mindanao.
“Nanatiling pabago bago ang pagkilos nitong LPA na ito kaya hindi natin inaalis ‘yung possibility na sa mga susunod araw ay pumasok ulit ito ng PAR,” said Pagasa weather specialist Grace Castañeda.
(This LPA continues to move erratically, so we do not rule out the possibility that in the next few days it will enter PAR again.)
“Bagama’t nasa labas na ito ng PAR, ang trough nito ay patuloy na magdudulot ng pagulan sa malaking bahagi ng Visayas at Mindanao, maging sa southern portion ng Palawan,” she added.
(Although the LPA is outside the PAR, its trough will continue to bring rain in many parts of the Visayas and Mindanao, even in the southern portion of Palawan.)
Meanwhile, the eastern portion of Luzon, specifically, Cagayan Valley, Cordillera, Bicol Region, Aurora and Quezon will continue to experience cloudy skies and rain due to the northeast monsoon.
Fair weather, on the other hand, is forecast over the rest of Luzon, including Metro Manila.
Pagasa also raised gale warnings over the seaboards of Ilocos Norte, Batanes, Cagayan including Babuyan Islands, Isabela, Aurora, Northern Quezon including northern and eastern coasts of Polillo Islands, Camarines Norte, northern coast of Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, eastern coast of Albay, eastern coast of Sorsogon, Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, astern coast of Southern Leyte, Dinagat Islands, eastern coast of Surigao del Norte including Siargao and Bucas Grande Islands.
