P4M in goods lost in CamSur fire

NAGA City, Philippines—Millions of pesos in goods and property were destroyed when a one-and-a-half-hour fire hit four commercial stalls located near a transport terminal in Calabanga, Camarines Sur, Tuesday evening, a senior fire official said.

Senior Fire Officer 3 Jose Moriño, fire marshal at the Bureau of Fire Protection in Calabanga, said initial investigations showed that the fire, which started at 9 p.m., was caused by a faulty electrical wiring at a motorcycle parts and accessories store at the Muroda Compound in Barangay (village) San Francisco.

He said a short circuit caused the wooden ceiling in the store to catch fire and spread to neighboring stores.

No one was injured in the fire, which also damaged a tailoring shop, a dress shop and a sari-sari (variety) store, Moriño said.

Firemen from surrounding municipalities and Naga City helped put out the fire that reached second alarm, Moriño added.
