Dip in Aquino’s rating due to ‘Noynoying,’ says militant group
MANILA, Philippines—“Noynoying” has taken its toll on the President’s popularity, according to militant workers.
The Kilusang Mayo Uno said the dip in Mr. Aquino’s net public satisfaction ratings was due to his inaction over the people’s problems, such as the constant oil price hikes and the continued rise in the prices of basic commodities.
Militants have dubbed this inaction “Noynoying,” a play on the President’s nickname.
“The President is merely reaping the fruits of his Noynoying,” the KMU said in a statement.
KMU chair Elmer Labog said the people had seen that the President had not been doing much to address their woes.
“Despite the spectacle of the Corona impeachment trial, it became clearer to the public that the President is not doing anything to provide people with relief from the high prices of oil and basic goods and services, low wages, joblessness and demolition of poor communities,” Labog said.
It would be no surprise if this dip in the President’s ratings would continue, he said. “Our fearless forecast is that the President’s popularity will continue to fall, given the kind of policies that he has implemented and is bent on implementing,” he said.
He said the administration’s upbeat pronouncements over record highs in the stock market, improved investor confidence and credit rating upgrades, would be for naught unless it also addresses worsening hunger and poverty.
An audience that grows poorer and more hungry by the day would be unable to stomach such claims, he added.
“In the end, people will believe what they feel in their guts, in their stomachs, more than what they are being told by the government,” he said.
An SWS survey showed that Mr. Aquino’s rating went from being “very good” to “good.” SWS said the President had a net satisfaction rating of +49, which is considered “good.” This was down from his previous “very good” net satisfaction rating of +58.
