Pagasa: Cloudy Monday with rain showers due to approaching LPA, ‘amihan’
MANILA, Philippines — Parts of the Visayas and Mindanao are expected to have overcast skies and rain on Monday due to a low-pressure area (LPA) off Mindanao, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.
Pagasa weather specialist Obet Badrina said the LPA is still outside the Philippine area of responsibility, some 870 kilometers east-southeast of southeastern Mindanao.
The trough or extension of the LPA will bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms to Eastern Visayas, Central Visayas, and the Caraga and Davao regions in Mindanao.
Badrina said this LPA has a slim chance of intensifying into a tropical cyclone.
Meanwhile, the northeast monsoon or “amihan” will bring cloudy skies with rains over Cagayan Valley, Aurora, Quezon, and Bicol region.
Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will have a fair weather with possible rain showers.
Meanwhile, due to amihan, Pagasa raised a gale warning over the eastern seaboards of Luzon, including the eastern coast of Cagayan, Isabela, Aurora, northern coast of Quezon including the northern and eastern coasts of Polillo Islands, Camarines Norte, northern coast of Camarines Sur, and the northern and eastern coasts of Catanduanes as well as the western and northern seaboards of Northern Luzon, including Batanes, the northern coast of Cagayan including Babuyan Islands, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, and Pangasinan.
The said areas are expected to have rough to very rough sea conditions.
