Passenger dead after car hits concrete barriers on Quezon highway

A 31-year-old passenger died after the car he was riding crashed into a concrete barrier on the roadside in Tiaong town in Quezon province before midnight on Saturday (Dec. 31).

LUCENA CITY – A 31-year-old passenger died after the car he was riding crashed into a concrete barrier on the roadside in Tiaong town in Quezon province before midnight on Saturday (Dec. 31).

Tiaong police reported Sunday (Jan. 1) that Edrian Chilton Umali was driving a Honda sedan when he suddenly lost control of the vehicle while traversing the Tiaong-San Juan, Batangas road in Barangay (village) Paiisa around 11:55 p.m.

The wayward vehicle consequently crashed into a concrete barrier placed before the open canal along the side of the highway.

Umali and his passenger, Rommel Bacus, sustained grave injuries and were taken to the nearest hospital but Bacus died along the way.

The police are conducting further investigation and will subject Umali to mandatory alcohol and drug tests.
