MANILA, Philippines — The New Year’s Eve is expected to be cloudy and rainy in most parts of Northern Luzon due to the northeast monsoon or amihan, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said in its Friday afternoon bulletin.
Updates from Pagasa, showed that the northeast monsoon still prevails over the northern parts of the country, while Central Luzon down to Southern Luzon would have fairer weather for the coming hours.
However, state meteorologists warned that rains are still possible over Quezon province and Aurora due to the shear line, or the area of convergence of the cold wind from the northeast monsoon and the warm easterlies.
As of now, no low pressure area or tropical cyclone is expected to enter the Philippine area of responsibility.
For Sunday, the first day of the year 2023, it would still be relatively cold over northern parts of Luzon as temperatures in Tuguegarao play between 21 to 26 degrees Celsius; Laoag with 24 to 30 degrees; Baguio with 16 to 22 degrees; Metro Manila with 23 to 30 degrees; Tagaytay with 22 to 28 degrees; Legazpi with 25 to 31 degrees; and Puerto Princesa with 25 to 30 degrees.
Temperatures would be slightly warmer over Visayas and Mindanao, ranging from 24 to 31 degrees Celsius in Iloilo; 24 to 30 degrees in Cebu; 26 to 30 degrees in Tacloban; 24 to 32 degrees over Zamboanga; 25 to 30 degrees in Cagayan de Oro; and 24 to 33 degrees in Davao.
A gale warning remains raised over the seaboards of Ilocos Region, from Pangasinan up to Ilocos Norte, and over Cagayan Valley, including Batanes and the Babuyan Islands, up to the province of Aurora and the northern coast of Quezon and Polillo Islands.
Fisherfolk and small boat operators are discouraged from sailing in the said areas for now, as sea condition may range from rough to very rough.
