QC police destroy P800,000 illegal firecrackers
MANILA, Philippines — The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) on Saturday destroyed some P800,000 worth of seized illegal fireworks and firecrackers.
The process was facilitated by QCPD’s Explosive and Ordnance Division and Bureau of Fire Protection personnel held in QCPD grounds in Camp Karingal.
A total of 58 operations were conducted around the city which resulted in the confiscation of P810,697.00 worth of illegal firecrackers.
In seizing the contraband, authorities cited Republic Act 7183 or the Act Regulating the Sale, Manufacture, Distribution and Use of Firecrackers and other Pyrotechnic devices and a Quezon City ordinance which prohibits the use of firecrackers and pyrotechnic devices in all public places in the city.
A total of 41 firework-related injuries have so far been reported from December 21 to 30 from 61 hospitals nationwide, according to the Department of Health.
