TUGUEGARAO CITY–Police and firemen destroyed almost P60,000 worth of illegal firecrackers and pyrotechnic devices confiscated in the Cagayan Valley region this month.
According to Brig. Gen. Percival Rumbaoa, police regional director., the move was meant to reduce the number of firecracker injuries during the New Year’s Eve revelry.
Those destroyed were Piccolo, Poppop, Five Star, Plapla, Lolo Thunder, Giant Bawang, Whistle Bomb, Super Lolo, large Judas belts, Bin Laden, Mother Rockets, kwitis (skyrockets), and boga (improvised cannons).
“I am hopeful that the region will remain consistent with the ‘casualty-free’ celebration of the holiday season with the strict implementation of Republic Act No.7183 that governs the fireworks industry through various law enforcement agencies,” Rumbaoa said.
He also reminded the police force to refrain from indiscriminate firing. INQ
