MANILA, Philippines – After more than three hours, firefighters extinguished the fire which hit a shanty community in Sta. Cruz district in Manila before noon Monday.
Fire Officer 3 Oliver Sison of the Manila Fire District said that the fire which razed homes in Estero de San Lazaro along Benavidez Street reached fifth alarm before it was completely put out by firefighters at 2:45 p.m.
Sison said the fire also affected nearby commercial establishment Benavidez Gardens.
Arson investigators have yet to determine what caused the fire as well as the extent of damages it has made.
There were no immediate reports of injuries and casualties, Sison said.
