MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) on Thursday said four new fireworks-related injuries were reported in the country from December 28 to 29, bringing the number to 36, in addition to what had been recorded from December 21 to 29.

Only 25 cases were reported in the same period last year, making the current number higher by 44 percent than in 2021.

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. urged local government units to designate a common area for the fireworks display to discourage individual locals from lighting their fireworks, thus, reducing firecracker-related injuries.

According to the DOH, a total of 128 firework-related injuries were recorded in 2021.
