LPA leaves 9 dead, P89 million worth of damages–NDRRMC

MANILA, Philippines — The rains caused by a low pressure area in March left nine people dead and a total of about P89 million worth of damages to agriculture and infrastructure, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said.

Seven of the fatalities were from Western Visayas, one from Central Visayas, one from Eastern Visayas, the NDRRMC said.

Meanwhile, 15,8381 families or 71,365 persons from 218 barangays in 19  municipalities and four cities in six provinces in MIMAROPA, Western and Eastern Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula and Davao Region were affected. Of these, 865 families or 4,014 persons were staying in evacuation centers.

The damages recorded by the NDRRMC in Oriental Mindoro alone  was estimated at P89,545,892.90.

Five bridges remain impassable in Cagayan region including Tawi Overflow Bridge, Pinacanauan Bridge,  three in Sto.Tomas, Sta. Maria, Alicaocao in Isabela, it added.
