17 dead due to shearline-induced rains — NDRRMC
MANILA, Philippines — The death toll in the wake of the shear line-driven heavy rains has escalated to 17, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported on Tuesday.
Most of the deaths were reported in Northern Mindanao, with nine fatalities; Bicol Region reported five deaths, while Eastern Visayas and the Zamboanga Peninsula reported two deaths and one death, respectively.
A total of 27 people remain missing, while eight were reported to be injured.
The agency also said 10,873 families, or 46,479 persons, were evacuated.
Agricultural damage stands at P62.6 million, while damage to infrastructure was pegged at P20.5 million.
Article continues after this advertisementThe shear line brought moderate to heavy rains with, at times, intense rains over parts of the southern part of Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao, according to the state weather bureau.
Article continues after this advertisementMeanwhile, a low-pressure area off Surigao City in Surigao del Norte would cause rainfall over several areas on Wednesday some of which are still reeling from the damage of the shear line rains, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration.
The LPA would bring rains over Palawan, a huge part of Visayas, the Zamboanga peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Caraga, and even the Davao Region, said Pagasa.
