MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has found P457,188.60 worth of “nonconforming” products that did not go through government-mandated inspection and approval, the agency said on Tuesday.
The agency found these products while inspecting 23 retail firms in Bulacan in November, said the DTI.
“Through intense enforcement, the DTI tracked assorted products that did not go through the Mandatory Product Certification Schemes implemented by the DTI-Bureau of Philippine Standards (DTI-BPS), as they do not have the requisite Philippine Standard (PS) Quality and/or Safety Certification Mark and the Import Commodity Clearance (ICC) Certification,” the DTI said in a statement.
Some of the items found by the DTI include the following:
- 11 rolls of Pipes (PE) for potable water supply
- 42 rolls of Low Carbon Steel Wires
- 697 pieces of motorcycle helmets
- Induction cookers
- Monobloc chairs and stools
- Electric blenders
- Electric grills
- Microwave ovens
- Extension cord sets
- Edison screw lamp holders
- Galvanized iron pipes
- Fire extinguishers
Out of these 23 retail firms inspected, four were found non-compliant and issued violation notices. The violating firms are expected to explain within 46 hours of receipt of the notices, said the DTI.
“The DTI’s intensified enforcement operations reflect its commitment to ensure that only safe and reliable products reach each Filipino consumer,” Consumer Protection Group Assistant Secretary Ann Claire C. Cabochan said.
According to the DTI, it has confiscated uncertified products worth P67,490,780.90 from January to November.
