Pagasa: Cloudy, rainy Tuesday due to shear line, ‘amihan’

Public Weather Forecast issued at 4:00 AM | December 27, 2022

MANILA, Philippines – The shear line, or the point where warm and cold air meet, will bring rain to Palawan and parts of the Visayas, and Mindanao on Tuesday, according to the state weather bureau.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said scattered to widespread rain showers caused by the shear line – affecting Visayas and the northern portion of Mindanao – will persist in Eastern Visayas and the Caraga region.

“Andiyan pa rin po ang banta ng landslides at flash floods sa Visayas at Mindanao dahil sa shear line. Dahil po may nakikita pa rin tayong malalakas na pag-ulan dulot nito,” Pagasa weather specialist Aldczar Aurelio said in an early morning forecast.

(Landslides and flash floods due to intense rain caused by the shear line are possible in the Visayas and Mindanao.)

Meanwhile, he noted that the northeast monsoon, locally known as the “amihan,” is still affecting Luzon.

“Bukod sa malamig na simoy ng hangin, asahan din ang mga pag-ulan dulot nito sa silangang bahagi ng Luzon. Sa araw na ito, dahil sa amihan, makararanas ng maulap na kalangitan na may mga mahihina hanggang sa katamtamang pag-ulan sa Cagayan Valley, Cordillera, Aurora, Quezon at Bicol region,” Aurelio said.

(Aside from the cold winds, expect rain in the eastern portion of Luzon. Today, because of the northeast monsoon, cloudy skies and weak to moderate rain showers will prevail in Cagayan Valley, Cordillera, Aurora, Quezon and Bicol region.)

A gale warning remains raised over the following areas, according to Pagasa:
