AS the prices of fuel continue to increase, only a few of the basic commodities in Cebu City were monitored to have increased their prices.
According to the Department of Trade and Industry in Central Visayas (DTI 7), the prices of regular canned sardines increased by 1 and condensed and evaporated milk went up by less than P1 last month.
A can of regular sardines is now sold at P13.
The DTI- 7 were monitoring prices of basic goods every Monday on pre-selected areas, said DTI 7 Chief Trade and Industry Development Specialist Zaide C. Bation.
She also said this was done to identify possible trends in pricing.
However, vegetable vendor Ellen Canen in the Ramos Public market said a kilo of tomatoes that could be bought for P30 before was now sold at P60 a kilo.
At least three Ramos market meat vendors said that the prices of meat increased by at least P20 from February to March.
Niño Seroy, meat vendor and chorizo maker, said that a kilo of meat belly increased from P170 a kilo to P190 a kilo.
Seroy said a kilo of pork ribs increased from P140 to P160.
Two meat vendors beside Seroy’s stall agreed with him.
