NDRRMC: 6 dead, 19 persons missing amid heavy rains

The government says 9 people are missing amid heavy rain and strong wind due to shear line

MANILA, Philippines — Six persons are reported dead while 19 others were missing amid the heavy rains and winds brought by the shearline.

Based on the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council’s (NDRRMC) situation report on Monday, two of the individuals who died were from Camarines Sur and four from Misamis Occidental.

Three died because of drowning, one from cardiac arrest after being rescued, while the cause of the death of the remaining two is yet to be established.

Meanwhile, 10 of the missing individuals were from Catanduanes, five in Northern Samar, one in Leyte, and three in Misamis Occidental.

The six missing persons from Northern Samar and Leyte were fishermen who set sail and encountered inclement weather and rough seas. They have not returned to their residences to date.

The reason why the other 13 went missing is yet to be identified.

The NDRRMC also logged three injuries due to the weather condition.

The shear line likewise affected 23,762 families or 100,691 individuals, of which, 9,216 households or 44,672 individuals are staying in 27 evacuation centers.

The effect of the weather system damaged 48 houses in Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan), Eastern Visayas, and Northern Mindanao.

Agriculture and infrastructure damage were pegged at P54.77 million and P5.28 million, respectively.
