Search resumes for 9 missing fishers in Catanduanes
LEGAZPI CITY — Authorities resumed Monday the search for nine missing fishermen in the Viga and Virac towns in Catanduanes province.
Gremil Alexis Naz, Office of Civil Defense Bicol spokesperson, said the search, rescue and retrieval teams suspended their operations over the weekend due to strong currents by the shear line and northeast monsoon.
Naz identified the missing fishermen as Noel Zafe, Dante David, Arnel Araojo, Domingo Borilla, and Jason Mandasoc, all from Virac town. They were expected to return home on Dec. 24.
In Viga, Ringo Tupig, Willy Uchi, Jobert Teano, and Juanito Estrella Jr. ventured out to sea on Dec. 20 but failed to return home on Dec. 23.
Naz said a team from the Tactical Operations Group Bicol coordinated with the local disaster teams for the aerial survey. INQ
