DOH Bicol records 2 firecracker injuries

LEGAZPI CITY — The Department of Health (DOH) has recorded two firecracker-related injuries in the Bicol region, according to a bulletin released Sunday, Dec. 25.

In the Fireworks-Related Injury (FWRI) Surveillance bulletin, the DOH Bicol said a 13-year-old boy sustained eye injuries due to an improvised canon (boga) in Daet town in Camarines Norte province.

The report said the incident happened on Christmas Eve, but it did not include specific details.

The first case was recorded on Dec. 21 in Tinambac town in Camarines Sur where a 10-year-old boy was also hurt in the eye by the same type of firecracker.

Both victims were sent home after being treated in separate hospitals.

In the 2021 monitoring, the agency recorded 14 firecracker-related injuries in Bicol.
