Gale warning raised over most of PH seaboards on Christmas Day

MANILA, Philippines — Most of the country’s seaboards are under a gale warning on Sunday, Christmas Day, due to the strong northeast monsoon, locally known as amihan.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) raised a gale warning in the following coastal waters:

The public is warned against venturing out at sea at these seaboards to ensure their safety.

“Ang mga baybaying dagat sa mga nabanggit na lugar ay magiging maalon hanggang sa napakaalon. Kaya paalala po sa ating mga kababayan na huwag munang pumalaot sa mga lugar na ito para sa ating kaligtasan,” Pagasa weather specialist Aldczar Aurelio said.

(The coastal waters of the mentioned areas will be moderate to rough. So, a reminder to our fellow Filipinos to not set sail to be safe.)

Rainy Christmas

Additionally, the state weather bureau said the Philippines will have a rainy Christmas Day because of the shear line and the northeast monsoon.

The northeast monsoon is seen to bring overcast skies with rains over Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, Aurora, Quezon, and Bicol while the shear line is anticipated to cause cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Palawan, Visayas, Caraga, Northern Mindanao, and Zamboanga Peninsula.

Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon and Mindanao, on the other hand, will have fair weather, Pagasa said.

It also said it is not monitoring any low pressure area in the Philippine area of responsibility.
