A shallow, tectonic magnitude-4.8 earthquake rocked the northern province of Batanes Sunday afternoon, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
The tremor, which occurred at 1:34 p.m. and originated 8 kilometers below the ground, was classified as moderately strong, with intensity 4 felt in Basco. It was generally felt by people indoors.
Its epicenter was offshore, some 76 km south of Basco. There were no casualties or damage reported. Phivolcs said it was not expecting aftershocks. Kristine L. Alave
