6 die in nightclub fire in city in northern Serbia

BELGRADE, Serbia— Serbian police say six people have died in a nightclub fire in a city in the country’s north.

Police say they are investigating what caused the fire early Sunday in the Contrast disco in Novi Sad.

Senior police official Predrag Maric says 350 people, mostly young, were inside the club at the time of the fire.

He said the deaths must have occurred in a huge panic to escape the blaze, adding that “responsibility for the tragedy must be established.”
