Couple killed in Laguna car crash
CAMP PACIANO RIZAL, Laguna— A couple, both of them medical doctors, was killed after their vehicle crashed into a parked cargo truck in Sta. Rosa City, Laguna Saturday, the police said Sunday.
Sta. Rosa City police chief Supt. Ismael Fernandez in a phone interview identified the victims as surgeon Yemen Kadatuhan, 38, and his wife Maria Elizabeth Mendoza-Kadatuhan, 35, of Caloocan City.
The victims, on board a Toyota Hi-Ace van driven by Yemen, were headed to Manila when their vehicle crashed into the rear of a cargo truck parked on the outer lane of the national road in Barangay Macabling at around 3:45 a.m. Saturday, Fernandez said.
The cargo truck, driven by Jenyboy Bartolome, 30, was parked along the road due to a flat tire.
The victims were rushed to the Mt. Sinai hospital in Sta. Rosa City but both died about an hour later.
“We couldn’t be sure why the driver failed to see the truck’s early warning device on the road. That part of the road is also well lit,” Fernandez said.
