Pagasa: Cloudy, wet Thursday in many parts of PH

MANILA, Philippines — Overcast skies and rains will prevail weather with rain is expected to prevail in most parts of the country on Thursday due to three different weather systems, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

“Inaasahan po ang mataas na tsansa ng pag-ulan dito sa Luzon, particularly sa Isabela, pababa ng Quirino, Aurora, at northern portion ng Quezon, dahil po ito sa shear line o hung pagsasaluboing ng mainit at malamig na hangin. Yung pag-ulan natin at moderate to heavy rains po, so posible itong magdulot ng pagbaha or landslides,” said Pagasa weather specialist Benison Estreja.

(It will likely be rainy in Luzon, particularly in Isabela, down in Quezon, Aurora, and northern portion of Quezon, because of the shear line or the meeting of hot and cold winds. The rain will be moderate to heavy, hence, flash floods and landslides are possiuble.)

Cloudy skies and rain due to the northeast monsoon or “amihan” are expected in the Cordillera Administrative Region, Cagayan Valley and the Ilocos region, said Pagasa.

The shear line is also affecting parts of central and southern Luzon.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy skies with chances of scattered rain, said Pagasa.

In the southern parts of Mindanao, the intertropical convergence zone may trigger isolated rain showers or thunderstorms, said Pagasa.

Estreja added that no tropical cyclones are expected until the weekend.

According to the state weather bureau, a gale warning is in effect in Batanes, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Cagayan, and the Babuyan Islands, Isabela, Aurora, eastern coast of northern Quezon including Polillo Islands.

Fishermen and seafarers manning small vessels have been advised against setting sail, said Estreja.
