Mini-concert, vigil Mass to mark Guadalupe ‘Sugat’

A MINI-CONCERT of song and dance numbers performed with children dressed as flying angels marks this year’s Birhen sa Guadalupe’s “Sugat” set on April 7, Black Saturday at the Archdiocesan Shrine of our Lady of Guadalupe de Cebu.

In a press conference, stage play director Aljin Abaquito said the event is a “tool of evangelization” and an avenue for Cebuanos to remember and understand the sacrifices made by Jesus Christ to save humanity.

The event which centers on the theme “Pia Jesus (Sweet Jesus): Matam-is nga Kaluwasan (Sweet Salvation)” starts at 8 a.m on Black Saturday and lasts up to 4 a.m on Easter Sunday.

An Easter vigil Mass will be followed by the traditional “Sugat”, a procession to be held from Barangay Banawa to the Guadalupe Shrine.

A veiled statue of the Our Lady of Sorrow will meet the statue of Jesus Christ.

By midnight, a religious mini-concert and short-act presentations will be held and followed by a short talk of Talisay City Mayor Socrates Fernandez, a Catholic faith defender, on the theme “Pia Jesus”. A 20-minute film on the life of Filipino martyr Pedro Calungsod will also be shown.

This year’s “Sugat” is also a fund raising drive to raise P1 million for construction of the convent for the Guadalupe Parish. UP-Cebu Intern Sean Timothy Salvador
