MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) recorded a total of 8,292 cases of COVID-19 from Dec. 5 to Dec. 11, which is higher than the infections recorded the previous week at 7,731.
Based on the DOH’s weekly report on Monday, this translated to a daily average of 1,185, seven percent higher than the previous week’s cases.
Only six, or 0.07 percent of the newly registered cases, were then tagged as severe or critical, bringing the active number of severe or critical cases to 650.
An additional 134 deaths, however, were added to the country’s COVID-19 death toll — 34 of which occurred in the past two weeks, while the rest were backlogs recorded as early as June 2020.
Despite the higher number of cases recorded, non-ICU utilization rate decreased from 25.3 to 24 percent. On the other hand, the ICU utilization rate rose from 22.1 to 22.4 percent.
Regarding the progress in vaccination against COVID-19, fully-vaccinated individuals are now 73,709,100 (94.38 percent of the target population), with 83,448 new vaccinations, while individuals with booster shots, now total 21,038,386 after 100,376 additional individuals were inoculated in the same period.
Based on the DOH’s online COVID-19 tracker as of Dec. 4, the country’s total COVID-19 caseload sits at 4,049,042, with active cases currently at 18,256, while total deaths are 64,880.
