Residents of Gibitngil, a northern Cebu barangay, will have a steady supply of electricity once the electrification project of the Department of Energy will be operational on September.

Randy Perez, Cebu Electric Cooperative (CEBECO) II board of director, said that this project was part of their goal to provide electricity to all the barangays in Medellin town including Gibitngil.

Perez said Gibitngil is the only town barangay with no permanent source of electricity in Medellin.

DOE will be providing the wiring and facilities for the electrification of the barangay.

“Under ni sa program of NEA (National Electrification Administration) nga by 2011 masug-an na ang tanang barangay sa tibook Pilipinas,” Perez said.

Perez said Cebeco’s role in the agreement would be on the maintenance and operation of the project.

DOE will put up solar panels on 300 households in Gibitngil.

Each house will be charged with P120 for 25 watts, P220 for 50 watts and P320 for 75 watts.
