MANILA, Philippines — Tropical Depression Rosal continues to move away from the country as of Sunday afternoon, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.
According to Pagasa weather specialist Veronica Torres in Pagasa’s latest typhoon briefing, Rosal was last located 505 kilometers east west of Casiguran, Aurora with maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 70 kph.
It maintained its strength as it moved northeastward at 15 kph and is forecast to intensify into a low-end tropical storm in the next 24 hours, but is expected to again weaken by late Tuesday or early Wednesday into a low pressure area.
“Dahil dito, inaasahan natin ang mauulap na kalangitan na may kalat kalat na pagulan at pagkulog dito sa may Quirino, Aurora, Quezon, Marinduque, Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro at Camarines Norte,” said Torres.
(Because of this, we expect cloudy skies with scattered showers and thunderstorms here in Quirino, Aurora, Quezon, Marinduque, Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro and Camarines Norte.)
Meanwhile, while no tropical cyclone wind signals are hoisted, the northeast monsoon, locally known as “amihan,” will be enhanced by Rosal and will bring occasional gusts reaching gale force in Batanes and in the Babuyan Islands, while strong breeze to near-gale strength should be expected in Ilocos Norte, the northern and eastern portions of Cagayan, and the eastern portion of Isabela.
Torres added that aside from rain brought by Rosal’s trough, the tropical depression is not expected to bring heavy rain in the country throughout its remaining forecast period.
